For nearly eight years, since its foundation on October 20, 2017, Saspearian’s official name has remained the same as its common name: “Saspearian.” That has changed today with the passing of a recent bill in Parliament known as the Official Name Act of 2025. As a result, Saspearian’s official name and long name have been changed to the “Empire of Saspearian.” The official name change comes following recent discussions among citizens regarding their opinions on a new official name and adopting a long name.
On June 23, Emperor Anthony I held a discussion with citizens on the topic of a potential official name for the nation, inquiring if the official name should be changed to the “Empire of Saspearian” from “Saspearian.” In addition, Anthony I stated that the name “stuck around,” believing it added to the uniqueness of Saspearian, but being open to a future official name change. Prime Minister Patreyk Narjid (GPS–Logejo) expressed support for an official name change, opining that it would benefit the nation, citing his personal confusion surrounding the demonym being mistaken as “Saspearian” as opposed to “Saspeariard” and confusion with the official name being a common occurrence. Anthony I concurred, believing that it would help prevent confusion from observers, and added that Saspearian had been mistakenly referred to as the “Saspearian Empire” in past instances.
Other citizens agreed with the sentiment towards changing the official name to the “Empire of Saspearian,” supporting any measures to adopt a long name and change the official name.
Following these discussions, Anthony I introduced the Official Name Act of 2025 to Parliament on June 25. The act states that the official name of Saspearian shall be changed to the “Empire of Saspearian,” and all documents, including treaties, intermicronational agreements, and conventions with the former official name of Saspearian, will remain unchanged unless requested by other parties for the extension of the name to be used. Additionally, it states that the “Empire of Saspearian” will become the long name of Saspearian, and “Saspearian” will remain the common name and short name.
The bill passed in Parliament with a vote of 5-0 in favor of the Official Name Act of 2025, with one member, Elizabeth Malcolm (DSP–Unueco), absent. The bill became law with the Emperor’s approval of the act. Information on the internet about Saspearian, such as the official government website and social media accounts, is expected to be updated within the next few days with the official name change.
