Yesterday, a peace agreement was reached between Saspearian and the Empire of Freedonia following a brief coup attempt in Saspearian, in which a rebellion was formed against the government. On December 17, the Saspearian Bonapartist party leader and newcomer to Saspearian, River Kimmis, along with Luis Rutter, who also recently became a citizen, attempted to seize control over Saspearian by proclaiming the formation of a provisional government.
Background
The coup attempt came as River Kimmis and Luis Rutter expressed dissatisfaction with Anthony I’s leadership, the current state of the government, and inactivity in the midst of campaigning for the upcoming parliamentary special election that was set to be held over the weekend, according to the joint statement provided by River Kimmis and Luis Rutter, which was posted repeatedly on the Saspearian Discord Server, Kimmis and Rutter proclaimed the formation of a provisional government under the name of the Saspearian Empire. River Kimmis declared himself as the Emperor of Saspearian, and Luis Rutter assumed the title of Prime Minister of the declared provisional government.

River Kimmis and Luis Rutter made demands to Anthony I, in which he must abdicate as the Emperor and implement measures that would allow River Kimmis to take power as the Emperor and the Prime Minister to be elected by a popular vote. Anthony I disagreed with the demands that were sought by the self-declared provisional government, arguing that stepping down would be unnecessary and that Parliament could facilitate certain measures to be implemented. Offers were made on behalf of Anthony I in an effort to mitigate escalation, in which nobility would be granted while also ensuring integrity in the diplomatic process, but were ultimately disagreed by the provisional government due to the positions lacking control over Saspearian. Subsequently, Anthony I removed the citizenships of River Kimmis and Luis Rutter due to hostility against the government. This move led to Freedonia declaring war on Saspearian. Anthony I refused to recognize the declaration of war, leading to a threat of invasion by Freedonia. However, later on, an invasion was ultimately not conducted as the opinion of River Kimmis had shifted in favor of peace.
Reactions
The coup attempt was condemned by the citizens of Saspearian and Anthony I. Citizens Reggie Hawthorne and Marek Squirtzle condemned the coup attempt, and Anthony I issued a statement addressing the coup attempt on December 17.
In the statement, Anthony I explained the declaration of a provisional government was caused by dissatisfaction with his leadership, the current state of the government, and inactivity, and strongly condemned the coup. In addition, Anthony I states the actions that he has taken in removing the citizenships of River Kimmis and Luis Rutter, potentially rescheduling the election, and rejecting the demands. Furthermore, Anthony I informs of a potential peace agreement and expresses a sentiment of upholding democracy while striving for peace. By the time Anthony I issued the statement, peace negotiations had begun to occur, and the coup attempt had paused, as both parties agreed upon willingness toward peace despite the warning of hostilities from the declared provisional government and Freedonia earlier in the day.
The coup attempt also saw primarily negative reactions from micronations across the community, with support expressed for the government headed by Anthony I. Inocria and Kavkazhia, two allies of Saspearian, announced their support for the government headed by Anthony I.

This act undermines the principles of democracy, rule of law, and the will of the people of Saspearian.
We reaffirm our unwavering support for the legitimate government of Saspearian, led by President [sic] Anthony I, who was duly elected by the citizens of Saspearian.1 The Republic of Inocria calls for the immediate restoration of constitutional order and the reinstatement of President [sic] Anthony I to his rightful position.
We urge all parties involved to engage in dialogue and seek a peaceful resolution to the current crisis, prioritizing the interests and welfare of the Saspearian people. The Republic of Inocria stands ready to assist in any efforts aimed at restoring stability and democracy in Saspearian. In conclusion, we call upon the international community to join us in condemning this coup and to support the legitimate government of Saspearian in its efforts to uphold democratic values and human rights.”

In the statement provided by Reggie Hawthorne, the Head of the Legislative Assembly of Inocria, they expressed their concerns regarding the coup attempt and support for Anthony I. They also conveyed urgency for action to be taken to peacefully resolve the crisis, as well as supporting the government of Saspearian for continuing to uphold Democratic values and the rule of law.

In the statement provided by Radenko Živanović, the First People’s Secretary of Kavkazhia, the government announced their support for the government of Saspearian headed by Anthony I.
Peace Agreement
Negotiations were held between Anthony I and River Kimmis beginning on December 17, with preliminary diplomatic resolution occurring; River Kimmis expressed willingness to sign a peace agreement that would dissolve the provisional government, repeal the claims to the throne, and dissolve the Saspearian Bonapartist Party. Anthony I agreed to sign a peace agreement, and diplomatic talks continued the following day. River Kimmis expressed willingness to accept Anthony I’s offer to assign nobility to River Kimmis and Luis Rutter. Additionally, the provisional government and the Saspearian Bonapartist Party would be dissolved, and an apology would be issued in the agreement. However, Anthony I declined to grant nobility due to the recent circumstances that occured but offered to grant nobility based on good behavior and with time as well as rehabilitation for citizenship.
River Kimmis would draft the peace agreement known as The Treaty of Peace and Reconciliation Between the Empire of Freedonia and the Saspearian Government (also known as simply the Treaty of Peace and Reconciliation) on that same day, with both parties modifying the terms of the treaty. Further negotiations continued on December 19, and the treaty was signed on that same day by Anthony I.
In the treaty, hostilities from Freedonia were halted against the Saspearian Government, and Freedonia ascertained full recognition of the Saspearian Government. In addition, the declared Saspearian Provisional Government and Saspearian Bonapartist Party were dissolved. In addition, the treaty established cooperation between Freedonia and Saspearian for trade, security, and cultural exchanges. The treaty implemented a rehabilitation process for citizens involved in the coup attempt, in which restoration of citizenship and nobility for good behavior could be granted. Additionally, the treaty also implemented the prevention of conflicts and dispute resolution by a joint commission and a neutral third party.
The upcoming parliamentary special election that was set to be held over the weekend has been postponed until further notice, and Anthony I is expected to announce a new date for the election within the next few days. Anthony I has since restored the citizenships of River Kimmis and Luis Rutter.
